OUR CONCEPT - The cars that make up our Class.

We have three types of cars that make up the membership of the Pennsylvania Vintage Dirt Modifieds. Our 'Show only' Modifieds are authentic in every respect and remain just as they were 'back in the day'. These cars can be seen at Car Shows, Mall Shows and at Race Tracks as a true reflection of how the cars were in that bygone era. Our 'Race Classes' are made up of authentic cars from the era that have been updated for competition and safety and the 'Retro' cars that have later model chassis housed in old sheetmetal. We also cater for the flat sheetmetal bodies that evolved from the Troyer 'Mudd Bus' and were the predecessors to todays wide body cars. The look of all the cars must be representative of the 'typical' Modified from that era including exposed headers, open wheels and no aerodynamic aids. Era's represented include 50's/60's/70's - coupes & coaches, 70's/80's - compacts & cut downs and the 'Mudd Bus' style cars to the mid 80's.

The 50's/60's/70's era Coupes

30's and 40's Coupe bodies typify the cars that raced from the 50's Jalopies through to the mid 70's Modifieds. These are the most sought after bodies for the Vintage Modified cars, but they are getting tougher to find in usable condition today. In future, perhaps fiberglass replica bodies may be used at some stage to keep the 'look' alive, but for now, its authentic tin.

The 50's/60's/70's era Coaches

$2600

As with the coupes from the 30's and 40's, the Coach and Sedan bodies are very much sought after. Once again, they have to be original steel and as such, are tough to find in good condition. They do make for an awesome looking race car though.

The 70's/80's Compacts

American made pre 1979 bodies were all the rage when Modifieds became lower and sleeker during the 70's and 80's. Bodies like the Ford Pinto, AMC Gremlin, Chevy Vega and Chevette were all popular and made great looking race cars. Sadly, a lot of them went to the crusher when scrap metal prices were high, so even they are tough to find.

The 70's/80's Cut Downs

Cutting down some of the bigger cars of the 50's, 60's and 70's became popular in the 70's, even though there was a lot more work involved. Cars like Ford Falcons, Chrysler Valiants, Ford Mustangs and Chevy Camaros all got the treatment and looked great out on the track. Consult the RULE BOOK before you start though, as there are limits on width and length.

The mid 80's 'Mudd Bus' style.

Troyer introduced their 'Mudd Bus' body in the early 80's which had roughly a Gremlin outline, but was all flat aluminum sheet and more areodynamic. These were the predecessors to todays wide bodied Modifieds. We keep the body dimensions pretty close to original, so if anyone is thinking of building such a body, please consult our Car Specifications.
